Almas del Silencio (English: Souls from the Silence) is the seventh studio album and the first Spanish language album recorded by Puerto Rican performer Ricky Martin since 1998's Vuelve. It was released by Sony Music Latin and Columbia Records on May 20, 2003 (see 2003 in music). Martin collaborated with many new producers around the world for Almas del Silencio. The album also features David Campbell, who arranged, orchestrated and conducted the strings.

Chart performance

The album has sold over four million copies, worldwide.

Almas del Silencio debuted at number one on the US Top Latin Albums and stayed there for six weeks. On the Billboard 200, it peaked at number twelve and was certified 4× Platinum Latin award by the RIAA. In the first week, Almas del Silencio has sold more than 65,000 copies in the US, and 261,000 in total.

The album reached top ten in Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Norway and Finland.

Outside the United States, it was certified Platinum in Spain and Argentina, and Gold in Mexico and Switzerland.

Almas del Silencio includes three Hot Latin Songs number ones: "Tal Vez" (eleven weeks at the top), "Jaleo" and "Y Todo Queda en Nada". "Asignatura Pendiente" peaked at number five.

"Jaleo" was released as the first international single, reaching number one in Spain. The follow-up international single, "Juramento" peaked at number eleven in Spain.

Awards

Almas del Silencio was nominated at the Latin Grammy Awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in the 5th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2004. It won Latin Pop Album of the Year, Male at the 2004 Latin Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Award for Favorite Latin Artist.
