An Apex body of Sunni Muslims

The All India Ulama & Mashaikh Board (AIUMB) is a body of Indian Sunni Muslims. It was founded by Syed Mohammad Ashraf Kichhouchhwi. It is the representative body of Ahl-E-Sunnah Wal-Jamaat consisting of the Sajjada Nasheen (Patrons-in-Chief) of the Dargahs, imams of mosques, the Mufti and teachers of the madrasas.

Contents

AIUMB advocates for a rejection of radical Islam, wahhabism and jihadism, for a return of Islamic holy places to the Sunni ummah, and for proper representation of all Muslims.

Large gatherings

It has been in news for starting a movement against the hardline faction of Islam which it described are Wahabis and Salafis.

In recent years, AIUMB has organised large-scale conferences, popularly known as “Muslim Maha Panchayats”, in addition to small gatherings, in many parts of India, in an effort to awaken the country’s Muslims. These efforts of Sufi Sunni Muslims, who constitute around 80% of total Muslim population in India, have also been endorsed by the Indian Shias in their resolutions, which have duly been forwarded to governmental authorities. In these gatherings, Sunni Sufis have declared that they accept neither the Imamat (religious leadership) nor the Qayadat (political leadership) of the extremist Wahhabis.

World Sufi Forum

All India Ulema and Mashaikh Board organised World Sufi forum in New Delhi from 17 to 20 March 2016. It was a gathering of 200 delegates from all around the world who were to denounce the terrorism and extremism. Famous Muslim Sufi scholar Shaykh ul Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri delivered a keynote speech on March 20, 2016 in Ramlila Ground New Delhi, where he condemned terrorism and suicide bombings.
