The board is responsible for preparing the syllabus for class 9 to 12, secondary and senior secondary level. Another important function of CBSE is to conduct examinations based on the prescribed syllabus. It is a recognized board and its syllabus incorporates the national curriculum as well as additional subject matter. For school education, the board conducts two examinations – All India Secondary School Examination (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII).

Exam

Each subject in the exam is marked out of highest marks of 100. The subjects, like physics, chemistry, biology etc., in which practical exams are also conducted, 30 marks are reserved for practical exams and 70 marks for the theory exams. The subjects, like English, math, regional languages etc., in which practical exams are not required, entire 100 marks are reserved for the theory paper. Theory paper is conducted for 3 hours duration, while duration of practical exams depend on the subject as well.

For practical exams, students have to conduct practicals, maintain their records and attend a viva. The CBSE gives a list of practicals from which students are asked to perform practicals.
