Alison Pargeter (born 31 May 1972) is an English actress who played the roles of stalker Sarah Cairns in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, also Mary Slessor in an 11-part television series of Mary Slessor, and the Nag's Head barmaid called Val in the BBC Only Fools and Horses prequel Rock & Chips.

Television appearances

Pargeter has made several appearances over the years on screen and in June 2000 she made a guest appearance in the Channel 5 Horror series Urban Gothic playing the role of a 21-year-old student called Leila Haze who had received a transplant from the surgeon, and in May 2001 she made guest appearance in an episode of the long-running ITV police drama series The Bill where she played the role of Katie who was a 15-year-old under age prostitute, and also in June 2003 she made guest appearance as Natalie in another Horror TV series called Strange which also starred EastEnders Star Samantha Womack, and in January 2004 also saw her play a barmaid in an episode of the BBC crime drama series Dalziel and Pascoe, and two mouths later in March 2004 she made a guest appearance as Sylvia Dyson in the BBC drama Holby City,

Between September and October 2004, she played a stalker named Sarah Cairns in EastEnders who appeared in 21 episodes, She was a barmaid who worked in Angie's Den club, and tried to split Martin Fowler up from his wife Sonia following a drunken night together. She exited the series following a fight where she accidentally stabbed Martin and got committed to a mental institution.

In June and November 2004 she made a guest appearance as Deborah Harker in two episodes of The Courtroom, and in September 2005 she appeared just in the very first episode of the first series of the BBC comedy series Love Soup as a Nurse called Siobhan, and In March 2006 also saw her play a Nurse in the Channel 4 comedy series Green Wing, and also in December 2006 she made a guest appearance as Donna Carlyle in an episode of the BBC drama Casualty, And also in October 2007 also saw her making another guest appearance in The Bill again for two episodes where she played the role of Shelley Cooper.

In 2008 Pargeter played the role of Mary Slessor in the Mary Slessor an 11-part television series.

And in November 2008 she made guest appearance as Nina Jarvis in an episode of the BBC drama Doctors, And also in February 2009 also saw her making another guest appearance in the BBC drama Casualty again for another episode where she played the role of Rosie Pullen who was looking after her father Artie Pullen (Terry Molloy) who was suffering from multiple sclerosis, and in September 2010 she appeared as Valerie in the last episode of the first series of the Channel 4 comedy series Pete Versus Life and in April 2011 she appeared as Amelia in the final episode of The Crimson Petal and the White, and in September 2012 also saw her making another a guest appearance the BBC drama Doctors again for another episode as Annie Hanks who was a friend of Barry Biglow's.

In July 2014 Pargeter appeared for a small part in an episode of the American TV series called 24: Live Another Day where she played the role of Lydia who was a passing motorist who assisted and spotted Chloe O'Brian walking on a side of the road in Millswood not long after she Chloe escaped from Cheng Zhi's men.

Between January 2010 and April 2011, Pargeter appeared in the Only Fools and Horses prequel Rock & Chips as Val, the Nag's Head barmaid.

In 2004 she appeared in the television advertisement for John Smith's bitter "Annie, I'm not your Daddy" which starred Peter Kay. Also in 2012 she appeared in a television advertisement for Miracle Whip: Village. Most recently she played a role as a house wife for TV commercial Volvic Juicy drink.

Pargeter has appeared in four films such as Calendar Girls (2003), Mad George (2004), Angel (2007), Reuniting the Rubins (2010).

Theatre

Pargeter was a member of the Stephen Joseph Theatre Company in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, where she was directed by Sir Alan Ayckbourn in a trilogy of plays known collectively as Damsels in Distress, which subsequently transferred to the West End. For this, she won Best Newcomer in the Critics' Circle Theatre Awards and was nominated for an Evening Standard award, Manchester Evening News Award and a Whatsonstage Award.

Later parts include Sugar Daddies, again written and directed by Alan Ayckbourn; She Stoops to Conquer at the Royal Exchange, Manchester, for which she was nominated for a second Manchester Evening News award; and the title role of Effie Gray in The Countess, playing opposite Nick Moran at the Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly in June 2005. She also spent a year touring in the musical Grease playing the role of Jan who was one of the Pink Ladies in 1999.

In 2008 she recorded the voice of 'Wendy Darling' in a musical adaptation of Peter Pan with the music lyrics by Dallison/Wherry and was also narrated by Joe Parquale as 'Smee'.

Pargeter has starred in several Christmas Pantomimes for children over the years, she played Alice in Alice In Wonderland at the Birmingham Rep theatre in November 2006 until December 2006, And she also played Princess Melody in Jack and the Beanstalk at Barbican Giles Haveral Theatre in December 2007 until January 2008, and as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at the Salisbury Playhouse in December 2009 until January 2010.

In July 2011 Pargeter played the role of Gertrude Riall at the Manchester International Festival in a Victoria Wood's play called That Day We Sang.

Pargeter is now working at the Stagecoach Northampton as a drama teacher alongside actor Pete Hillier.

Between February and June 2013, Pargeter went on A National Tour and played the role of Eliante in the Roger McGough's play called The Misanthrope and on 10 March 2013 The Misanthrope also went live from the Everyman Playhouse and English Touring Theatre on BBC Radio 3.

Between 1 October until 27 October 2013 Pargeter appeared in the Anna Longaretti's play called Sex Cells at Riverside Studio in Hammersmith where she played the role of A 39-year-old French woman called Sylvie who is very obsessed with having a baby and can not to focus on anything else at all.
