Education

He graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Art. He specializes in painting in oil, pastel, and acrylic.

Expromanticism

The term is a portmanteau of Expressionism and Romanticism. Although this new style describes many of his floral and figural works, he has done works in other styles as well.

Characteristics

  • Elimination of foreground and background by way of using 100 percent of the canvas
  • Random use of colors
  • Treat traditional subjects in such a way that they become suspended between abstraction and realism.
  • Movement while preserving the work's unity.
  • Intense colors to create a great impact upon the viewer
  • Different techniques and varied media (early works)
  • Often no particular orientation (no up or down or right or left)
  • Figures and flowers are the preferred subjects.
  • Although no single one of these characteristics constitutes a style, the combination is novel. The choice of colors and color application comes from Expressionism, while the freedom of handling, preferred subjects and movement draw on Romanticism.

The style emerged in the late 80's without the specific intent to create the hybrid.
