Ali Kararname (Turkish: Kararnâme-i Âlî ) is a government decree which was issued in 1867 and allowed the state officials to close down newspaper which posed a treat to the regime.

Etymology

Kararname is a word from the Turkish language, meaning a government decree.

Purpose and result

It was the first serious attempt of the government to prevent publication which published texts against governing elite. This decree was issued by Ali Pasha and named after him in texts about it. This decree did not manage to suppress the publication of the periodical publications which number was greater than ever.
