Alhambra High School is part of the Phoenix Union High School District. The campus is located at 3839 West Camelback Road, northwest of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Alhambra's enrollment is 2,734 students, just under 80 percent of whom are Hispanic. The school predominantly serves students from partner elementary districts Alhambra, Isaac and Phoenix Elementary, although students from across the district come to Alhambra for its Phoenix Union Magnet Program—Medical and Health Studies.
The school's band was comically featured by Tempe, Arizona-based Comedy metal group Psychostick on their 2007 holiday EP The Flesh Eating Roller Skate Holiday Joyride. The band's drummer, Alex Preiss, is an AHS alumni and a member of the 2001 concert band featured on the opening track, "Doom to the World".
Facts
The Alhambra campus comprises approximately four square blocks and is located on Camelback Road, between 37th and 39th Avenues. It shares its floor plan/campus layout with its "sister school", Maryvale, located on the corner of 59th Avenue and Osborn. This shared plan and "sister school" status is often considered the impetus for the rivalry between the athletics departments and sports teams of both schools.
It is the only school in the Phoenix Union High School District to host the Medical Arts Magnet Program.
