Alberto Gobbi (born 14 October 1956) is an Italian surgeon and researcher who is widely renowned for his expertise in orthopedics and traumatology. He is a member of various orthopedics associations in Europe and the United States.

Education and career
From an early age Gobbi was surrounded by medicine as his father Augusto was a physician, and worked as a researcher in collaboration with the University of Milan. Gobbi studied medicine, graduating in 1983 after presenting his thesis on trauma suffered in motorcycle sports. He specializes in Orthopedics and Traumatology and in 1988, published his research on how to treat leg fractures in athletes.
An expert in sports medicine, in 1991 he became the doctor of choice for some of the worlds most famous motocross and trail riders plus athletes from rally, water sports and alpine skiing. He was also chosen as the official doctor for the Italian Motorcycle Federation for motocross, as well as the Water Sports Federation.
Assignments and Activities
In 1986 Gobbi became a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He was welcomed as an international member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. In 2004, he became an AANA “Honorary Member.”
In Europe, Dr. Gobbi is a member of the European Surgery Knee Arthroscopy, as well as the Italian Association for Arthroscopy, Sports trauma, Orthopedics and Cartilage studies.
Internationally, he has worked as a member of the International Society of Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery (ISAKOS), and in 2003 he was nominated as a member of the Arthroscopy Committee in the Communication and Strategic Planning department. From 2008 until 2012 Gobbi was a member of the ISAKOS General Board, and is now Chairman of the Education Committee. In 2013, Gobbi was elected as the General Secretary of the International Cartilage Repair Society and Vice President in 2016.
He is Founder and President of the Orthopaedic Arthroscopic Surgery International Bioresearch Foundation Onlus in Milan, an organization which is recognized by the Minister of Health for its non for profit research in the medical field.
Alberto Gobbi is author and coauthor of over 200 scientific publications, appearing in international peer-reviewed journals, including Cartilage, the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Sports Health, The Journal of Knee Surgery, Arthroscopy, Tissue engineering, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy review, KSSTA. He recently edited the book The patellofemoral joint: State of the Art in Evaluation and Management
Also notable is his work as a pioneer of innovations in bio-orthopedics. He appeared on the cover of the April 2013 Orthopaedics Today Europe . He is included in The 'New Generation of PRP' publication Tabloid di Ortopedia. British Website KNEEguru includes Alberto Gobbi in its list of knee surgeon specialist.
Today, Dr. Gobbi splits his time between clinical activity and scientific research in both Italy and the USA (after having received the title of “visiting professor” from 2014 to 2017 by the University of California in San Diego).
