Ah Xian (Born 1960 in Beijing) is a Chinese born artist based in Sydney, Australia.

Ah Xian Ah Xian BOOOOOOOM CREATE INSPIRE COMMUNITY ART

Ah Xian was a practising artist in China throughout the 1980s. He sought political asylum in Australia following the events of Tiananmen Square in 1989 and moved to Sydney in 1990. He started work on porcelain casting in the 1990s, and produced the China China and Human Human series of busts and figures.

Awards and honors

Ah Xian Ah Xian Artist Profile

  • In 2001, he won the National Gallery of Australia's inaugural National Sculpture Prize.
  • In 2009, he won the final Clemenger Contemporary Art Award from the National Gallery of Victoria. He was awarded the prize of $50,000 for his work, Concrete forest.
  • In 2014 Ah Xian was included in the 2014 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art 'Dark Heart' curated by Nick Mitzevich, Director at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
