Biography

Addison Pulsifer was born in December 1874 in Auburn, Maine. He attended Edward Little High School, and later entered the office of that school's architect, Coombs, Gibbs & Wilkinson. That was in 1896, and he remained there for ten years. He then went to Worcester, Massachusetts, where he worked for Frost, Briggs & Chamberlain. Two years later he moved onto the contracting firm of Norcross Brothers. In 1910, back in Lewiston, the Coombs firm was being dissolved. Partner Eugene J. Gibbs recalled Pulsifer back to the city, where they established Gibbs & Pulsifer. Gibbs retired in 1927 (and died in 1929), and the office was re-established as Pulsifer & Eye, with Harold M. Eye. They parted ways in 1934, and Pulsifer continued to practice alone.

At least three buildings by Pulsifer have been individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and others contribute to listed historic districts.
