History
Adarsh Vidya Kendra was established in 1984 at Vetturnimadam, Nagercoil. The school started with a headmaster, seven teachers, and 112 students. Growing student enrollment resulted in expansion of the school; additional classrooms were built in 1992.
The school today
The school gives equal importance to academics and co-curricular activities. They give all students a platform to showcase their talents through competitions and programs.
Every year the school celebrates School Day, Sports Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Children's Day and Teacher’s Day are celebrated. The school has students from all over India and from outside India

In 2014 the Language Day was celebrated on October 18, students displayed the tradition and culture of the people of their second language.Aswin Niranjan and Varun Kamalahasan were awarded 'THE YOUNG SCIENTIST" awards at IIT Chennai. In 2015 the short movie "En Kaanavu" won the second prize at the national short movie competition
Celebrations
An induction ceremony is held for the new student council every year. Independence Day is celebrated with the usual formalities and then the various cultures. During 2015 a new competition, "on the spot dance", took place.
Living near Kerala leads students to celebrate Onam, with the traditional Pookalam competition. Cultural programs are held.
Every year a grand fest occurs during Adarsh, with the school's band welcoming the honours. Inspirational speeches are held followed by cultural programs. The programs consist of dances, dramas and songs. The school orchestra plays an important role.
Academics
Adarsh has a history of training students who achieve high academic marks. Formative assessments are held and marks are evaluated with pen paper tests, projects and activities. The summative is held once in every term. Adarsh has scored high marks in both the 10th CBSE board examinations as well as 12th state board examinations.
Student Council
The School has an effective school council. The council is headed by one boy and one girl who with their respective assistants are democratically elected. The students from std. 8 to std. 12 are eligible to vote. The school has six houses and respective captains and vice-captains.
