Pictures of the Gone America, Live and Unplugged (2002–2004)

In 2002, Zwig released his solo debut album, Pictures of the Gone America, his sound marrying blues, pop, rock and hip-hop. It was during this time that Zwig began his residency at the Portland, OR, club, The Ohm, (at that time owned by musician Dan Reed of the Dan Reed Network) consistently selling out the venue and gaining notoriety throughout the NW for his explosive mixture of old school raw blues, new school beats, vocals and electronica. Featuring musicians such as renowned saxophonist, Renato Caranto, these weekly gigs would form the basis of his next album Live and Unplugged, a live unplugged hip-hop party album featuring Zwig and his 7-piece band playing their unique fusion of funk, blues, and hip-hop for a capacity crowd. It was also during this time period that Zwig would have his first radio hit as a solo artist, with his song "Gusto God" reaching #1 nationwide on the AAA radio format.

Koan (2004–2006)

In 2004, Zwig released his 2nd solo album, Koan, which found him returning to his roots: the acoustic guitar. Recorded in his NW Portland apartment, Koan is one of Zwig's most intimate, raw, and sparse albums to date, featuring a collection of songs that while deeply personal, have the effect of relating to universal experiences. Adding to that intimacy is the lack of "mastering" that typically follows the mixing process, which was done by Jonathan Plum at the Seattle's famed London Bridge Studio. This moody, organic, laid-back rock album finds Zwig's vocals combining both melodic and poetic spoken word approaches and features Brandi Carlile on background vocals.

Cast Iron Letters, Tour (2007–2010)

In 2007, coming off the success of Koan, Zwig once again teamed up with producer Jonathan Plum to release Cast Iron Letters, which features a combination of pedal steel guitar influenced country folk rock and socially conscious lyrics touching on love, justice, and other perennial human themes. Implementing the same recording approach as Koan, Zwig recorded the majority of the tracks in his NW Portland apartment with additional recording and mixing completed at London Bridge Studio in Seattle. In addition to playing guitar on this album, Zwig also played slide bass on the "Castaways," which became a top ten hit on the AC charts. Two other songs from the album, "Once a True Love," and "Who Killed Michael Vaughn?" also became top ten AC hits. In support of the album, Zwig and his band embarked on a one-year tour of the U.S. and Europe, receiving rave reviews for their stripped down roots rock shows.

Visions of the Shimmering Night, Tour (2011–2013)

Coming off the Cast Iron Letters Tour, Zwig began writing songs that would become his album entitled Visions of the Shimmering Night. Zwig originally penned enough material to comprise a double album, but then decided to release 12 songs as a stand-alone record. For this album Zwig turned to Grammy award-winning producers Stuart Sikes and David Bianco, which helped bring his folk-pop masterpieces to life. Leaning on topics of interconnectedness, universality and healing, the album transcends typical contemporary lyrical matter and had three Top Ten hits on the AC charts: "Everybody Love," "Waiting on Heaven (To Make a Move)," and "When All the World Was in Love". In support of Visions, Zwig and his band, featuring Brian MacLeod on drums and Erik Kertes on bass, embarked on a six-week tour of the U.S., beginning on the West Coast and ending in the East. Also during this time, Zwig collaborated with video director Garrett Gibbons on a video for "Everybody Love," which has over 15 million YouTube views.

Stones, Bones, and Skin, Tour (2014)

While touring the states for his Visions of the Shimmering Night Tour, Zwig began penning the material that would comprise the 5 songs for his EP entitled Stones, Bones, and Skin. Working again with producers Stuart Sikes and David Bianco, this collection of songs channels a hypnotic and harmonious hybrid of Americana, pop, rock, folk and world music. Three songs from the EP, "Going Back to Vermont," "Raising People," and "Sunshine Waves" became Top Ten hits on the AC charts, with two live videos released from a show at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, as well as a lyric video for "Waiting on Heaven (To Make a Move) (Orchestral Version)" (featuring The Section Quartet) created by video director Aya Tanimura, that has over 1 million YouTube views. In support of the album, Zwig and his band toured both Europe and the US.

Live at the Wiltern Theatre (2015)

During the Stones, Bones, and Skin Tour Zwig and his band decided to capture one live unedited performance on tape, choosing the renowned Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles for Adam's 7th solo album, Live at the Wiltern Theatre. Released on December 11, 2015, the album was recorded by Grammy winning producer David Bianco, and premiered on Billboard on December 7. In addition, 4 songs have been premiered in media to date: "Just Like Tom Thumb Blues" (a cover of Bob Dylan's 1965 masterpiece) which became a Top Ten hit on the AC Charts, "Raising People", "I Remember You", and "Going Back to L.A". In addition to the forthcoming album, Zwig and his band will be releasing a DVD of this concert in 2016.

  • Responding to All Access Music's interview question concerning how Zwig balances life as a musician and a therapist, he replied:

"For me, music and therapy are the same thing. They both bring out what's hiding in the shadows. They get you in touch with your joy, your sadness, or whatever it is you need to feel. There's something lurking just below the surface in all of us – something unsaid, unfelt, unknown, and music and therapy loosen the grip on these obscure emotions. I see therapy as music, and music as therapy."
