Actinoplanes is a genus in the family Actinoplanaceae. They have aerial mycelia and spherical, motile spores. Actinoplanes species produce the pharmaceutically important compounds valienamine (a precursor to the antidiabetic drug acarbose and the antibiotic validamycin), teicoplanin, and ramoplanin.
