Abi Roberts is a British stand-up comedian. She studied Russian and Italian at Swansea University, attended Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (and later the Moscow Conservatoire) and gained prominence in a series of comedy sketch shows on the London stage and at the Edinburgh Festival, including the satirical comedy Newsrevue, Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues,. (alongside Lesley Joseph and Natalie Cassidy) and Jonathan Harvey’s stage show, Taking Charlie (Roberts co-wrote the score with Duncan Walsh Atkins of Showstopper! The Improvised Musical).

She has been a regular on the stand-up comedy circuit's major clubs since 2011 and has performed across the UK and the US. Her recent solo show ABI ROBERTS: ANGLICHANKA (Englishwoman in Russian) premiered at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in 2016 and recently completed a 85 date sell-out tour of arts centres, theatres and comedy festivals across the UK, which culminated in a 25 day run at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe at the Underbelly in Cowgate.
She has appeared as a guest comedian on BBC Radio 4’s Midweek, Weekend and Outlook, as well as on comedy radio stations Fubar Radio, Moscow Comedy FM (Russia) and Wildfire Radio (US). Abi has just filmed her first comedy films for Emmy-nominated writer and director Ruth Pickett called One Under and The Honeymoon for Square Cat Films and recently completed a pilot playing a Russian woman Irina in Cameron Gordon’s Bucketless.
Abi is also one half of character act FRANKLY ON TUESDAY, playing a BBC Radio 4 presenter GINNY FRANKLY alongside Brenda Gilhooly's character GAYLE TUESDAY (Harry Hill's TV Burp, Harry Hill's Fruit Fancies, Paul O'Grady Show, Saturday Night Live) which premiered at last year's Guernsey Comedy Festival.
Roberts has frequently been cited in the media as a unique comic performer, echoing the early stand-up of both Richard Pryor and Robin Williams and has been dubbed "one of the top 10 female acts working on the UK comedy circuit" despite her recent entry into stand-up in 2011.
Abi is also host of the live comedy show, MUSICAL C.I.D. (Abi Roberts' MUSICAL C.I.D.) which looks in forensic detail at the music collections of comedians from stage and screen, asking probing questions about a comedian's music likes and asks the question, "who has a record collection like this?!"
AWARDS: Roberts was Nominated/Runner-up: Best Comedy Show – Funny Women Awards 2016; Nominated/Runner Up: Best Comedy Show - Buxton Comedy Festival 2016 and Nominated: Best Comedy Performance - Buxton Comedy Festival 2016. She was also a Finalist and Runner-Up in the London Comedy Store’s Costa Light Comedy Competition in 2012, a Finalist and Runner-Up in the 2012 Harrogate Theatre’s Comedian of the Year and took the Audience Award at the same festival.
