Abhiyantriki, a Sanskrit word for engineering, is the annual technical festival of the K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering. It is traditionally held in September end or early October, Abhiyantriki was born out of the need to express the overflowing talent and the need for creative innovation by students. Abhiyantriki organizes over 35 events ranging from workshops to exhibitions. It hosts a variety of engineering disciplines, with an aim to provide a platform worth enough to attract and nurture talent in the fields of science and technology. It also hosts events like Start-Up Expo, Internship Expo, Tech Expo, Auto Expo and a Keynote Speaker's address. Abhiyantriki also undertakes various social initiatives under ‘Parvaah’ which strives to bring about a change in the lives of the less fortunate.

History and Growth

The Technical and Cultural Fest at KJSCE were organised together as the ‘Youth Festival’ from 1985-1997 . It was in 1998, that a separate technical fest under the banner Abhiyantriki was introduced with an aim to bring out the technical aspects in the college; To unite the technical communities around and help students in their research over fields of different spectrum. It has been a bigger success with each passing year.

In its latest edition, it registered a footfall of 15000+ students from various colleges spread all across Maharashtra. Previous versions of Abhiyantriki have been host to many innovative technical events. Innovation and advancements of technical events has been taking up every year with the help of the technical councils of KJSCE.

Ideate

In recent years ideas have been the fuel the world runs on. As an engineering college KJSCE believes that an institution needs to be a temple for learning and innovation. With the increasing demand for innovation and out of the box thinking, KJSCE aims to foster an environment for thinking and doing. With Ideate, KJSCE aim to get students to put pen to paper, put their thinking caps on and think. The primary aim of this competition is for the participants to propose and advocate solutions to real-time issues and problems (given to the participants as a problem statement) inflicted on the populace of the country, giving way for efficient and effective techniques which will in turn bring about progress in human and technological systems.

The problem statement of Ideate 2016 was 'to propose and advocate solutions that reduce the quantity and density of the traffic by focusing on the usage and improving the efficiency of the Mumbai’s public transportation system.' Judges for this event were Sachin Teke and Prafulla Pophale, the CEO and Co-founder respectively of M-Indicator.

Start-Up Expo

Start-Up Expo was first held during Abhiyantriki 14’ with many Start-up companies participating in it. This event brought start-ups and angel investors together in the same room where the start-up companies would present their ideas and vie with each other for investment in their respective start-up. It was to promote entrepreneurship and was the star attraction of the Event.

Auto Expo

Auto Expo has been a star attraction of Abhiyantriki since its starting years. It has collaborated with major companies like Jaguar, Audi, Fiat, Mercedes Benz. In 2013, this event presented high-end cars with participation from many colleges. This event helped students to gain perspective about different cars, their specifications and new technologies. In 2014, racing cars from IIT-B(IIT Bombay Racing), KJSCE(Orion Racing India,Red-Shift Racing), Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering and G.V. Acharya Institute of Engineering and Information Technology were on display during the exhibition.

Internship Expo

This event was initiated in Abhiyantriki 15’ with an aim to provide desiring and deserving candidates with internships. This event provided opportunities for candidates in various fields ranging from marketing to engineering. This event helped candidates get internships and further help their career.

Tech Expo

The innovative and creative Tech Expo emerged in Abhiyantriki from its 2015 edition. It was a great platform to showcase the latest, cutting edge technology. Projects and exhibits from various technical fields were put on display during the fest. It is a stage to get in touch with the latest developments in technological world and gain the necessary exposure through interaction with participants.

In 2016, an ISRO Exhibition was organised with senior scientists and engineers interacting with the incoming visitors from schools and colleges across the city.

Parvaah

Parvaah is a social initiative of K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering. It is inspired by the philosophy that it is the duty of every individual to contribute towards the society. It was started with a motive to understand that organizing various festivals is not only about fun and frolic, but also about spreading a message. Year 2015 being the first year of Parvaah, The Students' Council of KJSCE took up the social cause of Women’s Safety. By associating Women’s Safety along with Symphony(Cultural Festival of KJSCE), it created awareness amongst the 4000+ students that attended Symphony, and thousands others in various colleges. In 2015, on-ground events like basketball matches and quiz matches for orphaned children during Symphony and Skream(Sports Festival of KJSCE) took place.

KJSCE has always has had its back supported by major companies which have been a key part of its festivals. The title sponsor of the year 2015 was Union Bank of India which was powered by Mumbai Mirror.

Abhiyantriki 2016 was presented by Prodigy Finance, co-sponsored by Canara Bank, powered by Tata Realty and Infrastructure, in association with Telex Advertising Private Limited.

Organizing and Technical Committees

The Students’ Council of the college backs Abhiyantriki entirely with the help of different technical committees and student clubs in the college namely CSI, CodeCell, ISHRAE, SAE, MESA, IETE, Emfinity, Mindbenders, Alumni Cell, Bloombox, SAHAS, IEEE, ISTE, EESA. The Core team is of 28 members headed by the General Secretary of the Students’ Council. Rest are allocated different sectors of fest to overlook. Each one of them syncs with each other in various fields like Marketing, Public Relations, Logistics, Hospitality, Creatives and every other aspect of the Festival. The Students’ Council is accompanied by the Organizing Committee and Volunteers to coordinate and execute the fest smoothly. Technical Committees have their own importance in the fest managing the various technical events to keep the fest up to its mark.
