Abdulla Bin Mohammed Bin Butti Al Hamed (Arabic: معالي الشيخ عبد الله بن محمد بن بطي ال حامد  ; HE Shaikh Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed), (born 23 Feb 1973), is Chairman of Energy Authority and member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council which is considered the top of the governmental hierarchy for Abu Dhabi.

He has held several positions including Under Secretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court House of the Western Region, Chairman of the Western Region Development Council, Managing Director of the European Affairs Department & Under Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority. Bin Butti faced international criticism for his role in an illegal hunting company in Tanzania.

Early life and education

Al Hamed belongs to a prominent family of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. His father is Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, one of the top statesmen and a close associate of the late Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder and builder of the United Arab Emirates. The "Al Hamed" branch of the ruling family of Abu Dhabi refers to the descendents of Butti Al Hamed (from the Qubaisat tribe), who was the father of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's mother, Salma bint Butti. Her brother, Hamed bin Butti, was the father of Ahmed bin Hamed bin Butti Al Hamed (1929-2012), a maternal cousin of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the current ruler's Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's uncle. When the State of the United Arab Emirates was created in 1971, his family including himself holds important positions with in government structure and has had an important legacy in the development of UAE. Before starting his professional career Al Hamed studied at some of the most reputed in institutions in the world. He holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Marylhurst College, Oregon, U.S.A. and Master of Business Administration from New York Institute of Technology, Abu Dhabi branch, U.A.E. He also enrolled in several training courses & programs such as ‘Leadership for Senior Executives’, Harvard Business School, California - U.S.A., ‘Changing the Game’, Harvard Business School, London - U.K.

Career

  • Under Secretary of the Court of the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, the Government of Abu Dhabi, during the period 2001 - 2010
  • Chairman of the Western Region Development Council from 2004 to 2011.
  • Managing Director of the Department of European Affairs at the Foreign Ministry during the period 2011 - 2012
  • Under Secretary of the Foreign Ministry during the period 2012 - 2014
  • Chairman of Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority till Feb 2016
  • Currently performing his duties as Chairman of Energy Authority of Abu Dhabi
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the United Al Saqer Group.
  • Achievements

  • Certificate of Appreciation from the Red Crescent Society, U.A.E. for his ongoing support for the organization & its branches worldwide (Ethiopia, Tanzania and Vietnam).
  • As a committee member Sheikh Abdullah assisted in establishing the organization chart for the Western Region government sector, by creating government offices and services.
  • He also established the Abu Dhabi Motor Club which is the main sponsor and organizer of major off road motor sporting events in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
  • Al Hamad established Green Mile Safari hunting company in the United Republic of Tanzania, in 2010. Green Mile Safari was asked to leave the country in 2014 after a Green Mile promotional video documented dozens of instances of Tanzanian wildlife crime and animal abuse.
