Dr. Abdul Karim Sandeelo (Sindhi: ڊاڪٽر عبدالڪريم سنديلو‎) was born on 6 April 1919 at village Mehrab Khan Sandeelo, Dokri Taluka, Larkana District. He has been a renowned educationalist and expert of folk literature of Sindh and linguistics. He wrote about 25 books of Sindhi folk literature, language and heritage. He died on 2 January 1990 in Larkana, Sindh.

Education

He did his Master of Arts (MA) in Sindhi from University of Sindh. His treatise "Lok Adab Jo Tahkeeki Jaizo (Sindhi: لوڪ ادب جو تحقيقي جائزو‎)" was written for his Doctorate degree which was published by Institute of Sindhology in 1986.

Professional life

In his professional life, he started to work as a dispenser then left. Before his retirement as a principal in 1979, he remained a primary teacher, junior school teacher, and then a lecturer. He also remained a member of Sindhi Adabi Board and other committees.

Literary

He wrote articles for newspapers and magazines on regular basis and published his own books. He made a huge contribution to folk literature, linguistics and language. In folk literature he was student of Jala Khati at Lahori Muhallah Larkana where he learnt the techniques to solve folk riddles. His work is respected and valued in literary circles.

Awards

He received many awards and medals for his services. Government of Pakistan rewarded him with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and in 1984 made him member of Majlis-e-Shura.

His published books are, Ilm Badih (Linguistics 1951), Sindh jo Seenghar (Sindhi: سنڌ جو سينگار‎) (Folk Literature 1956), Tahkeek ul Lughat Sindhi (Linguistics 1955), Weenjhar (Folk Literature 1950) (Sindhi: وينجھار‎), Rahbar Deewan Gul (Poetry 1957), Pahakan Ji Paar (Linguistics 1966) & others.

Death

He died on 2 January 1990.
