Abdalla Eltayeb (2 June 1921 – 19 June 2003) was a prominent Sudanese scholar of the Arabic language. He was born in the village of Temirab west of Damer City. He received his primary education in the cities of Kasala, Damer and Barbr, graduated from Gordon Memorial College (now known as University of Khartoum), and received his PhD from School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 1950.

He was elected first as a Dean of the Faculty of Arts (1961–1974) and then as the President (1974–1975) of the University of Khartoum. He was the first Director of the University of Juba (1975–1976) and the founder and Provost of Abdullahi Bayero College (1964-1966) which later became Bayero University Kano.

Abdalla Eltayeb's primary field of study was the Arabic language. One of his most notable works is A Guide to Understanding Arabic Poetry, a massive opus written over thirty five years. Eltayeb was also president of Khartoum's Arab Language League and a member of Cairo's Arabic Language Academy.
