Brentford

Steele began his career as a youth at Brentford. His maiden call into the first team squad came for the final League One match of the 2004–05 regular season against already-promoted Hull City. Having already secured a playoff place, manager Martin Allen selected a side mostly composed of players from the youth team, including Ryan Peters, Karleigh Osborne, Darius Charles, George Moleski, Ryan Watts, Clark Masters and Charlie Ide. Steele was an unused substitute during the 2–1 victory. Steele failed to appear in Brentford's unsuccessful 2005 playoff campaign. Steele received his first call into the first team squad of the 2005–06 season for a League Cup first round match against League Two side Cheltenham Town on 23 August 2005, receiving a place on the substitutes' bench in a makeshift lineup. Steele made his professional debut when he came on for Ryan Peters in the 86th minute of the humiliating 5–0 defeat. Steele was called into the first team again for a Football League Trophy first round match with Oxford United on 18 October, but remained on the bench for the shootout defeat. It was Steele's final involvement with the first team and he was released in January 2006, having made just one appearance for the club.

Slough Town (loan and permanent signing)

Along with John Mousinho, George Moleski, Charlie Ide and Clark Masters, Steele joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Slough Town on loan in December 2005. He made his debut with a start in a 5–2 victory over Harrow Borough on 10 December. Steele's move was turned into a permanent transfer in January 2006. He made 23 appearances through the second half of the 2005–06 season and scored no goals. Steele called time on his football career in the summer of 2006 to work as a petroleum operator for the army.
