ACQUIP Inc, formerly ACQUIP Rotating Equipment Solutions; is an American mechanical engineering company headquartered in Miami, Florida that provides services for laser alignment, dimensional metrology and 3D scanning services. The services are specialized for power generation, aerospace, marine, automotive, manufacturing, oil & gas and petrochemical industries. Field services engineer Damian Josefsberg, founded ACQUIP Inc, on April 9, 2003, initially to provide laser alignment on marine equipment. In August 30, 2011, it was introduced as ACQUIP Rotating Equipment Solutions to include services to heavy industrial machinery (gas & steam turbines), and was renamed as ACQUIP Accurate | Precise | Trusted August 13, 2015 to make it relevant to the added applications within its portfolio of services related to 3D Measurements and Scanning Surveys.

A decade later, ACQUIP acquired the expertise and capability to perform laser alignment and metrology services on a wide range of rotating equipment and applications. ACQUIP has expanded its offerings to include extensive services on laser alignment and 3D dimensioning, developed into four divisions: Marine, Rentals, Training and Services.

On July 2014, ACQUIP unveiled the magnetic base for curved surfaces (The MAGIE) at the Coordinate Metrology Society Conference (CMSC), which allows the user to affix 3D measurement equipment to uneven, curved, or areas that were previously inaccessible.

2003-06: Getting Started

Damian Josefsberg founded ACQUIP. The first service jobs were marine alignments for the cruise lines; ACQUIP developed a method for stern tube to gearbox alignment with a laser bore alignment system. On 2004, ACQUIP Began performing Internal alignments for GE. ACQUIP developed a method for reciprocating compressor alignment with a laser system that saved days over typical methods. Initiated partnering with maintenance companies to share alignment expertise. ACQUIP helped Jason Trantor from Mobius to write the iLearn Alignment software.

On 2005 ACQUIP began working with DOW Chemical on dynamic movement studies on their critical equipment, started working with Siemens to provide them with internal alignment services on their Major Outages. By the end of 2006, ACQUIP developed the Express Alignment method, which is a way to do a theoretical tops-on alignment and save an average of 5 shifts on the Outage. ACQUIP began working in the largest Nitrogen Plant in the world (Nitrogeno de Cantarell) in Mexico to find the optimal alignment position of all of the air-separation machines.

2007-11: Success with Important OEMs

Started an annual contract with Siemens to provide them with internal alignment services on their major Outages, started the rental company to provide high-end equipment on an as-needed basis. Investigated the root cause analysis on a 660-mW steam turbine in the Philippines at the power plant that provides 20% of the nation’s power. On 2008, ACQUIP performed internal alignment for major Outages on a contract basis directly with power companies such as Southern Company, OUC and Progress Energy. In 2009, ACQUIP developed proprietary method for quickly performing internal alignment on GE D11 Steam Turbines. Performed Thermal Growth analysis studies on GE Frame 9 Gas Turbines in Asia. On 2010, ACQUIP developed a process for Dynamic Movement analysis on GE Frame 6 Gas Turbines in the Middle East. Devised process to determine positioning during operation for 501 F Gas Turbines at Progress Energy.

ACQUIP Worked on the largest pump station in the world in New Orleans, LA for Kiewit and the US Army Corp of Engineers to allow the pumps to operate in time for the beginning of Hurricane Season. Worked at Florida Power & Light to develop a process to diagnose an issue with all of the GE Frame 7 FA Gas Turbines; ACQUIP was able to determine the correct alignment targets for those machines. Opened an office in KSA and partnered with Zamil CD to provide alignment service for all of our clients in KSA including Saudi Electric Company, Sabic and Saudi Aramco.

2012-2013: Global Expansion, Inclusion into 3D Metrology

ACQUIP signed strategic alliance with FGGS Corporation and created a new product called Turbinekey that combined both companies’ offerings into one complete package: Gearbox maintenance and Laser Alignment for machine trains. ACQUIP started the acquisition of new 3D technology from FARO technologies: Laser Trackers and 3D Scanners, which allowed ACQUIP to increase the quality of their services and speed up ACQUIP’s processes. ACQUIP initiated the Metrology and 3D Scanning Division to serve its clients on a wide range of new applications. ACQUIP put into operation its helpline Rely 365, to help their customers with emergency situations related to alignment issues off-site 365 days a year 24/7 hours a day.

ACQUIP joined forces with Consolidated Turbine Services (CTS) to perform services in the United Arab Emirates region. ACQUIP became the sole authorized service representative for installation and alignment of machines using Altra Couplings. ACQUIP initiated a joined venture with ConfiabilidadMX to provide services, rentals and training in the Mexican territory. ACQUIP created a service called Jumpstart, which combines on-site training with advanced technology to assist you with specific applications.

2014- Present: Continuous Development

ACQUIP Team of Engineers created a unique patented Mag-Base for curved surfaces, the “MAGIE” which allows the user to affix the Laser Tracker and other measurement devices to uneven surfaces, angles or areas that were previously impossible to reach.

ACQUIP added new services for its portfolio for 3D Laser Alignment services, which includes: Hydro Turbine Alignment and Reciprocating Compressor Alignment. ACQUIP designed an Internal Alignment Simulator to provide a better understanding of internal alignment process in Steam Turbines using the Laser Tracker. ACQUIP starts the Laser Tracker Loaner Program, which permits rental clients to acquire a loaner unit with superior benefits. ACQUIP changed the slogan of its logo from “ Rotating Equipment Solutions” to “ “Accurate| Precise | Trusted”, to make it more relevant to the new industries which ACQUIP is now servicing worldwide.

Among different project sites and applications, ACQUIP found the need for a bracket or base that allows any measurement tool to be affix into curved or uneven surfaces. Before, users use to create their own bases or plates that required a flat surface to be mount, the imperfection on the surface cause this plates to rock, thus giving the user false data. MAGIE allows the user to mount your 3D measurement systems to uneven, curved or angled surfaces. It quickens the measurement process and improves the accuracy of the data. MAGIE is a patented product from ACQUIP, register #20150354750.

    Name

ACQUIP’s name came up from the combination of the words accurate and equipment; this integration pretends to disseminate that ACQUIP delivers accurate machines for quality results.

ACQUIP's first logo ACQUIP was inspired by the inside of a steam turbine rotor spinning; the color blue was predominant in this logo to communicate stability. ACQUIP Branding was totally reinvented starting August 2012. The company has separated its business forces into four divisions. Each of these units was assigned a color and a logo. ACQUIP Services (blue), ACQUIP Rentals (Green), ACQUIP Training (Orange), and ACQUIP Marine (Red). Moreover, The corporate logo was redesigned.

    Advertising

ACQUIP’s first slogan “ Align – Generate – Outperform” came up in 2006 as part of the company’s efforts to increase brand recognition. ACQUIP’s slogan was changed in 2012 to “Rotating Equipment Solutions” to include relevancy of all the rotating equipment serviced by ACQUIP at the time. Also, ACQUIP used the phrases “Powered. Empowering” "inspired by perfection" "Living by knowledge" and "Driven by Results" in numerous creative campaigns during 2012 until now, which have gained significant recognition of the brand globally. The slogan “ Precise – Accurate - Trusted” was implemented at the end of 2015, to make it more applicable not only for rotating equipment field services, but for new inclusions in the metrology and 3D scanning market.
