Plot summary

A Day With Wilbur Robinson follows the story of a boy who visits an unusual family and their home. While spending the day in the Robinson household, Wilbur's best friend joins in the search for Grandfather Robinson's missing false teeth and meets one wacky relative after another.

Characters

  • Wilbur Robinson is a 13-year-old boy who, with his friend, searches his home for Grandfather Robinson's teeth. In the process Wilbur makes Lewis meet his family.
  • Lewis is Wilbur Robinson's 12-year-old best friend. He visits the home of his best friend and spends all day there. He joins in the search for Grandfather Robinson's missing false teeth and meets all the Robinson relatives.
  • Film adaptation

Walt Disney Animation Studios released on March 30, 2007 a 3-D computer-animated film adaptation Meet the Robinsons, directed by Stephen J. Anderson.

    Differences from the book

The film contains a scene in the second act that resembles the plot of the book, while the rest of the story is a complete departure from the book. Lewis and Wilbur's distinctive hairstyles are true to the book, as well as the general physical characteristics of the other Robinson characters. The exception is Mr. Robinson, because in the movie, he is the future version of Lewis and doesn't appear until later, whereas in the book he is seen as having dark hair and appears much earlier. In film Wilbur's relationship to Lewis is revealed to go beyond that of being his best friend. Since the film jumps ahead about thirty years from the science fair scene and on, Lewis turns out to be Wilbur's father.

In the film, the elementary school Lewis attends is named as a tribute to the author, William Joyce. It is switched around to Joyce Williams Elementary School.
