5144 Achates (1991 XX) is a Jupiter Trojan discovered on December 2, 1991 by Shoemaker, C. S. at Palomar.

Photometric observations of this asteroid during 1996 were used to build a light curve showing a rotation period of 5.949 ± 0.014 hours with a brightness variation of 0.20 ± 0.01 magnitude.

Of the 230+ Jupiter trojans with an absolute magnitude (H) brighter than 11, it currently has the most eccentric orbit.
