2997 Cabrera, provisional designation 1974 MJ, is a main-belt asteroid discovered by the Felix Aguilar Observatory at Leoncito Astronomical Complex, Argentina, on 17 June 1974. It orbits the Sun at a distance of 2.0–3.1 AU every 4.09 years.

It is named after Argentine astronomer Ascención Laurentino Cabrera (1917–2003), long on the staff of the La Plata Observatory and collaborator at the Argentine National Observatory.
