The 2018 AFC U-16 Championship qualification will decide the participating teams of the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship. The tournament is the 18th edition of the AFC U-16 Championship, the biennial international youth football championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-16 national teams of Asia.

Contents

A total of 16 teams will qualify to play in the final tournament, including a team to be announced who qualified automatically as hosts.

Same as previous editions, the tournament acts as the AFC qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The top four teams of the final tournament will qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup as the AFC representatives.

Draw

Of the 47 AFC member associations, a total of 46 teams entered the competition. They are divided into two zones:

  • West: 24 teams, to be drawn into six groups of four teams.
  • East: 22 teams, to be drawn into five groups: two groups of five teams and three groups of four teams.
  • The final tournament hosts will participate in qualification despite having automatically qualified for the final tournament.

    The draw will be held on 21 April 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The teams are seeded according to their performance in the previous season in 2016.

    Player eligibility

    Players born on or after 1 January 2002 are eligible to compete in the tournament.
