The 2017 FIBA Asia Cup (formerly known as the FIBA Asia Championship) will be the 29th continental basketball championship in Asia. The tournament is organised by FIBA Asia. It will take place from 10 August to 20 August 2017, a week earlier from the initial scheduled date, in Lebanon.

The tournament will determine the composition of the joint FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania qualifiers for the 2019 FIBA World Cup. The top five teams in the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge will earn an extra berth in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup for their respective sub-zones. Australia and New Zealand will also participate in this tournament.

The top 14 teams of the tournament will qualify for Division A of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for FIBA Asia and FIBA Oceania.

Qualification

One playoff berth each is allocated to Central Asia, South Asia, the Gulf, and Southeast Asia sub-zones, while two each are allocated for the West Asia and East Asia sub-zones. The top five teams of the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge earned an extra berth for their sub-zones. Iran, Jordan, and Iraq earned three extra berths for the West Asia sub-zone, while South Korea and China earned two extra berths for theirs. Australia and New Zealand from FIBA Oceania will be making their debut at the FIBA Asia Cup in 2017. Lebanon as hosts clinched one of the five berths allocated for West Asia, with the four remaining berths for contention.
