The 2017 FIA European Formula 3 Championship is an upcoming multi-event motor racing championship for single-seat open wheel formula racing cars that is held across Europe. The championship features drivers competing in two-litre Formula Three racing cars which conform to the technical regulations, or formula, for the championship. It is the sixteenth edition of the FIA European Formula Three Championship and the sixth edition after the European Formula Three Championship merged with the Formula 3 Euro Series.

Lance Stroll is the defending drivers' champion. His team, Prema Powerteam, is the defending winners of the teams' championship.

Driver changes

Changing teams
  • Ralf Aron will switch from Prema Powerteam to HitechGP.
  • David Beckmann, who competed for Mücke Motorsport in 2016 from round 3 onwards, will join Van Amersfoort Racing.
  • Callum Ilott and Guanyu Zhou, who raced for Van Amersfoort Racing and Motopark in 2016 respectively, switched to Prema Powerteam.
  • Joining FIA European Formula 3
  • Force India junior driver Jehan Daruvala will join the series from 2016 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with Carlin.
  • 2016 Euroformula Open runner-up Ferdinand Habsburg will join the series with Carlin.
  • Jake Hughes, who competed in the final round of the 2016 season with Carlin, will race full-time with Hitech GP.
  • 2015 F4 Japanese runner-up Tadasuke Makino will join the series with Hitech GP.
  • ADAC F4 champion Joey Mawson will continue his collabarotion with Van Amersfoort Racing.
  • 2016 Formula Renault 2.0 champion Lando Norris, who competed in the last round of the 2016 season with Carlin, will race full-time with the team.
  • Mick Schumacher, son of seven time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, will join the series with Prema Powerteam.
  • Leaving FIA European Formula 3
  • 2016 champion Lance Stroll graduated to Formula One with Williams F1.
  • Motopark drivers Sérgio Sette Câmara and Niko Kari will step up to the GP2 Series with MP Motorsport and the GP3 Series with Arden International respectively.
  • Calendar

    A provisional ten-round calendar was announced on 30 November 2016. The finalised calendar was announced on 16 December 2016.
