The 2016 Philadelphia Eagles season was the franchise's 84th season in the National Football League and the first under head coach Doug Pederson. After a 3–0 start, the Eagles lost nine of their final 13 games, and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season and fourth time in five seasons. Originally intending to have rookie quarterback Carson Wentz develop behind Sam Bradford, those plans were changed due to a trade that sent Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a first & fourth round draft pick. Wentz then started all 16 games , the first Eagles quarterback to do so since Donovan Mcnabb in 2008.
