The 2016–17 Essex Senior Football League season is the 46th in the history of Essex Senior Football League, a football competition in England.

Essex Senior League

The league consists of 22 clubs.

The following 2 clubs left the league

  • Bowers & Pitsea – promoted to Isthmian League Division One North
  • Newham – resigned from league, joined Essex Olympian League Division One (as London APSA)
  • The following 3 clubs joined the league

  • Barkingside – relegated from Isthmian League Division One North
  • Redbridge – relegated from Isthmian League Division One North
  • West Essex – promoted from Middlesex County League Premier Division
  • Promotion criteria

    To be promoted at the end of the season a team must:

    1. Have applied to be considered for promotion by end November
    2. Pass a ground grading examination by end March
    3. Finish the season in a position higher than that of any other team also achieving criteria 1 and 2
    4. Finish the season in one of the top three positions
