2015–16 Al Shorta SC season

The 2015–16 season was be Al Shorta's 42nd season in the Iraqi Premier League, having featured in all 42 editions of the competition. Al Shorta participated in the Iraqi Premier League and withdrew from the Iraq FA Cup.

They entered this season having finished in third place in the league in the 2014–15 season, and were to be looking to wrestle back the title they won in both the 2012–13 and 2013–14 seasons. However, they only managed to finish in seventh place in the league after failing to win any of their last six games. The managerial instability at the club contributed to the their disappointing campaign as they had four different managers all in the same season.

Al Shorta had a lot of refereeing decisions not go their way in the final stage. In a 2–2 draw against Al Minaa, Al Shorta were in the lead but the referee gave Al Minaa a penalty for what was clearly a dive and Al Minaa equalised. Against Al Naft, Amjad Kalaf put Al Shorta into an early lead but the referee disallowed the goal for handball; replays showed that Kalaf had not used his hand but rather his chest to control the ball and Al Shorta went on to lose the match when they should have been ahead. The next game, against Baghdad FC, saw Kalaf get hacked down by an opposition player early on but he was denied a penalty by the referee, and in the second half Kalaf's cross was blocked intentionally by the hand of a Baghdad FC player inside the penalty area but the referee again did not give a penalty.
