It was the first year that Robbie Horgan was the team's manager, with last season's assistant manager taking over from Mick Cooke after a club statement on 14 November 2013. However, after a series of poor results, Horgan and the club parted company on 17 June 2014 after just seven months in the job. On 21 June 2014 Darius Kierans, who had coached the club's U-19 squad, was appointed as caretaker manager while Neale Fenn became assistant manager. This was Kierans second stint in the role, after he took charge following Alan Mathews’ resignation in 2010, but had to subsequently step down, as he had not earned all his coaching badges at the time. On 26 July 2014 Damien Richardson was named as first team manager, ending his six-year absence from management. He appointed Darius Kierans as assistant manager.

For the 2014 season, Drogheda's ground reverted to its original name United Park after being known as Hunky Dorys Park for the last three years.

Striker Gary O'Neill was named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for March.
