The 2014 ASEAN University Games officially known as the 17th ASEAN University Games, was a multi-sports event held in Palembang, Indonesia from 11 December 2014 to 21 December 2014 with 225 events in 20 sports featured in the games. The games involves athletes from the universities of the ASEAN member countries.

Contents

It was the fourth time Indonesia hosted the games. Indonesia is the secound country to host the ASEAN University Games after Thailand, and before Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Philippines, Vietnam and Laos. Palembang is the fourth Indonesian city to host the ASEAN University Games after Jakarta in 1982, Bandung in 1990 and Surabaya in 2004.

The final medal tally was led by host Indonesia, followed by Thailand and Malaysia. Several games records were broken during the games. With little or no controversy at all, the games were deemed generally successful, with the rising standard of university sports competition among the Southeast Asian nations.

Mascots

The mascots of the games are two elephants in traditional Indonesian clothes. They represents the warmth heart of the Palembang People and are described as athletic, smart and talented.
