Teams, stadiums, and personnel

The following eighteen teams will compete this season. Atlante was relegated to the Ascenso MX after accumulating the lowest coefficient over the past three seasons. Atlante will be replaced by the Apertura 2013 Ascenso MX champion Leones Negros, who won promotion after defeating the Clausura 2014 winner Estudiantes Tecos in a promotional play-off.

Torneo Apertura

The Apertura 2014 is the first championship of the season. The regular season will begin on July 18, 2014, and end on November 23, 2014. León are the defending champions, having won both the 2013 Apertura and 2014 Clausura tournaments.
