Victoria Azarenka was the defending champion, and successfully defended her title, defeating Li Na in the final 4–6, 6–4, 6–3.
All of the top three seeds (Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams) were in contention for the World No. 1 ranking at the start of the tournament. Azarenka retained the top position by winning the title.
