The year 2012 was the 2nd year in the history of the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship (SUPERKOMBAT), a kickboxing promotion based in Romania. 2012 started with SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix I 2012 and ended with SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final. All the events have been broadcasts through a television agreement with Eurosport.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix I 2012

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix I 2012 was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on February 25, 2012 at the Sportski centar Morača in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Background

A one night, four-man heavyweight tournament took place, consisting of promotion's biggest star, Cătălin Moroșanu against Utley Meriana on one side of the bracket and Anderson Braddock Silva vs. Nikolaj Falin on the other side. In the reserve bout, Dževad Poturak took on Brian Douwes. The winner qualified for SUPERKOMBAT's year end World Grand Prix Final Elimination. Also on the card there was a rematch between Andrei Stoica and Redouan Cairo along with Ismael Londt vs. Vladimir Toktasynov and Frank Muñoz vs. Montenegro's own Goran Radonjić. At 65 kilograms, Romanian SUPERKOMBAT mainstay, Ionuţ Atodiresei, took on Saša Jovanović of Austria, and Raul Cătinaș took on Yüksel Aydın in his return fight after a year and three months away from the sport.

Results

^Note 1 Originally, it was announced that Stoica defeated Cairo via decision. However, the officials overturned the decision to a no contest as the judges actually scored the bout a majority draw.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix II 2012

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix II 2012 was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on May 12, 2012 at the Sala Sporturilor Horia Demian in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Background

It featured a four-man tournament of heavyweights to qualify for the year end Final Elimination and also a fight for the inaugural SUPERKOMBAT Cruiserweight Title, where Bogdan Stoica took on Ivan Stanić, a veteran of the weight class.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix III 2012 was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on July 7, 2012 at the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria.

Background

Mladen Brestovac was the tournament favorite, coming in off a big win over Mourad Bouzidi. The show also featured a SUPERKOMBAT Heavyweight title fight as Ismael Londt faced Freddy Kemayo. Other notable fighters on the card included Andrei Stoica, Raul Cătinaș and Cătălin Moroșanu. The event also saw K-1 veteran Alexey Ignashov back in action against Corneliu Rus.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix IV 2012 was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on October 20, 2012 at the Galeria Arad in Arad, Romania.

Background

Goran Radonjić (Montenegro), Răzvan Ghiţă (Romania), Roman Kleibl (Czech Republic) and Steve Banks (United States), tried to win the tournament and to take the last Final Elimination qualifying place. In the super fights, the heaviest stand-up fighter in the world Alexandru Lungu fought against the veteran Deutsch Pu'u (125 kg) and the Romanian rising star Andrei Stoica had an opponent from Croatia, Toni Milanović. In the main-event, the Romanian Sebastian Ciobanu fought against the Bosnian Dževad Poturak and the winner received a wildcard for the Final Elimination.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final Elimination was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on November 10, 2012 at the Sala Polivalentă in Craiova, Romania.

Background

The event saw four spots for SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix tournament solidified as winners of tournaments past squared off for a spot in the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final. Some big Romanian names were thrown into the mix, with both Ionuţ Iftimoaie and Cătălin Moroșanu in action, picking up solid wins.

SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 Final was a kickboxing event held by the SUPERKOMBAT Fighting Championship on December 22, 2012, at the Sala Polivalentă in Bucharest, Romania.

Background

The event featured a one night, four man tournament, which consisted of fighters who qualified to the tournament from the Final Elimination on November 10. These four fighters were Benjamin Adegbuyi, Sebastian Ciobanu, Ismael Londt and Pavel Zhuravlev. Adegbuyi faced Zhuravlev on one side of the tournament, and on the other side, Ciobanu faced Londt. The winner of the tournament was crowned the SUPERKOMBAT World Grand Prix 2012 champion. In the tournament reserve fight, Freddy Kemayo faced Sergei Lascenko.

Among the other fights announced included the lone non-heavyweight fight on the event, where Andrei Stoica fought Arnold Oborotov. The super fights included Ibrahim Aarab vs. Daniel Sam, Carter Williams vs. Hesdy Gerges and Mighty Mo vs. Raul Cătinaș, which was a rematch from the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Seoul Final 16.
