The 2011–12 season was Elgin City's twelfth consecutive season in the Scottish Third Division, having been admitted to the Scottish Football League at the start of the 2000–01 season. Elgin also competed in the Challenge Cup, League Cup and Scottish Cup.

Elgin finished fourth in the Third Division entering the play offs, they lost 2–1 on aggregate in the semi final and remained in the third division. They reached the second round of the Challenge Cup, the first round of the League Cup and the third round of the Scottish Cup.
