Standings
World standings and season's best scores from the 2008-2009 season were used to decide entrants to the 2009-2010 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, and were used throughout the season to rank skaters for short program draws in specific competitions. In the case that a pair or dance team split before the new season, the next team on the list took their place in the rankings as far as seeding and the Grand Prix were concerned.
World standings
Following the 2008-2009 season, the ISU World Standings were computed based on the previous two complete seasons. 100% of the World standings points accumulated in 2008-2009 and 70% of the points accumulated in 2007-2008 counted towards the new world standings.
