The 2006 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship was held in Japan, from October 31 to November 16, 2006. This was the 15th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship, and the FIVB decided to host both men´s and women's championships in the same country.

Like the previous edition, 24 teams participated in the Tournament.

Competing nations

The following national teams have qualified:

Japan qualified as the host country, and Italy qualified as defending champions. The draw for the 2006 Championship was held in Tokyo on 29 November 2005.
