Daniela Hantuchová and Kevin Ullyett were the defending champions, but lost in semifinals to Martina Navratilova and Leander Paes.

Navratilova and Paes won the title, defeating Eleni Daniilidou and Todd Woodbridge 6–4, 7–5 in the final. It was the 1st Australian Open and 8th mixed doubles title for Navratilova, and the 1st Australian Open and 2nd mixed doubles title for Paes, in their respective careers.

By winning this title, Navratilova also completed the mixed doubles Career Grand Slam, becaming only the fourth female player in history to achieve this, as well as the "boxed set", having completed Career Grand Slams in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
