The 1st Military Police Brigade is a formation created under Force Troops Command that has control over close support military police units within the British Army. The brigade will be dispersed throughout the British Army at sub-unit level, although it will remain under the operational command of the Chief of the General Staff in order to keep and preserve investigative independence. It is commanded by the Provost Marshal (Army).

History

The brigade was formed under the Army 2020 reorganisation and became operational on 1 December 2014. It reached Full Operational Capability in July 2015.

Structure

The brigade consists of the following units:

  • 1st Military Police Brigade in Andover
  • 1st Regiment Royal Military Police in Catterick
  • 3rd Regiment Royal Military Police in Bulford
  • 4th Regiment Royal Military Police in Aldershot (A written statement in December 2016 stated that its headquarters will be rationalised, with all manpower in this headquarters being redeployed to other areas of the British Army.)
  • Special Investigation Branch Regiment Royal Military Police in Bulford
  • Special Operations Unit Royal Military Police in Longmoor (Army Reserve)
  • Military Corrective Training Centre in Colchester
