The Warriors selected Anfernee Hardaway with the third pick in the 1993 NBA draft, but soon traded him to the Orlando Magic for Michigan star Chris Webber. During the offseason, the Warriors signed free agent Avery Johnson. Despite losing both Tim Hardaway and Šarūnas Marčiulionis for the entire season due to injuries, the Warriors improved over their previous season, posting an 8-game winning streak in April to finish third in the Pacific Division with a solid 50–32 record. Webber was named Rookie of the Year averaging 17.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.2. blocks per game. Latrell Sprewell made the All-NBA First Team and was selected to play in the 1994 NBA All-Star Game.
