August 15 - MGM/UA Home Video announces that The Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in a Special Collector's Edition. The video cassette features a $5.00 mail-in rebate with purchases of Downy Fabric Softeners. The release is backed by an $8.5 million promotional campaign. It features a 32-page fact-filled illustrated booklet and a special supplement with behind-the-scenes footage and deleted songs.
