The 1987-88 NBA season was the Spurs' 12th season in the NBA and 21st season as a franchise. The season saw the team draft future All-Star and 2-time NBA Champion David Robinson with the first pick in the 1987 NBA Draft, but he did not sign a contract to play as he continued on with his Naval service, forcing the Spurs to wait one more year until his debut the following season.
