The 1982 Canadian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 13, 1982. The Canadian Grand Prix was traditionally held around the beginning of October, but for the first time it was held in early June; allowing for more appropriate weather; it has been held around that time of year ever since.
Riccardo Paletti was killed at the start of the race, when his car ran into the back of the stationary Ferrari of Didier Pironi who had stalled on the grid.
Paletti was the last driver to be killed during a Formula One race weekend until the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, when Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna died on consecutive days. In 1986, Elio de Angelis was killed during testing at the Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet.
Nelson Piquet won the race. His BMW-powered Brabham had 100–130 °C (220–280 °F) oil leaking around the bulkhead at the front of the car and the pedals, badly burning his feet for 60 laps.
