The 1981 St. George Whiskies season was the third season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Formerly known as Gilbey's Gin in the Open Conference.

Transactions

  • Acquired Aurelio Clariño from Presto and Angelito Ladores from Galleon during the off-season.
  • Two players from La Tondeña's farm team St.George Whisky in the MICAA, Eduardo Ducut and Romeo Valenzuela, were elevated to the PBA. The team also signed their third rookie, Alex Clariño, formerly of APCOR, beginning the second conference.
  • Summary

    Open Conference: The high-scoring Larry McNeill return for the third straight season with Gilbey's, along with Dean Tolson, who was also back when he first played together with McNeill as imports for the La Tondeña ballclub in its maiden year in 1979. Gilbey's Gin beat Yco-Tanduay, 96-95, in their first game ushering the start of the league's seventh season on March 8. The Gins landed seventh overall in the team standings, winning seven of their 18 games in the eliminations and failed to advance in the semifinal round.

    Reinforced Filipino Conference: Known as St.George Whisky, the team signed up Kenny Tyler as their import, Tyler played for the visiting Nicholas Stoodley squad from United States that won the Invitational championship last season. St.George won only once in the elimination phase against San Miguel Beer, 110-105 on September 19, and placed last in the conference.
