Final AP poll

For the first time in its history, the final AP Poll was released in January, after the bowl games. For the next two seasons, the final AP Poll returned to an early December release, prior to the bowls. Since the 1968 season, the final poll has been released in January, after the bowls; the AP Poll ranked only the top ten teams from 1962 through 1967.
Entering New Year's Day, the top three teams (Michigan State, Arkansas, Nebraska) were all 10–0, but all three lost.
