  • Both Urdu and Bengali become National Languages. Bengali is mostly spoken in the erstwhile province of East Pakistan, as well as in India's West Bengal province and the disputed territory of Tripura, which is the Bengalis referred to as the Chittagong Plains of East Bengal.
