The 1961 Utah Utes football team represented the University of Utah during the 1961 college football season. Home games were played on campus in Salt Lake City at Ute Stadium.

Under fourth-year head coach Ray Nagel, the Utes were 6–4 overall and 3–3 in the final season of the Mountain States Conference (Skyline). The new Western Athletic Conference (WAC) debuted the following season.
Utah did not face longtime rival Colorado in the previous two years. This season the Utes upset the #8 Buffaloes in Boulder, Utah's first win since 1948. After 1962, the series went on hiatus until 2011, when both schools joined the Pac-12 Conference.
