Overview
Dumbarton were to challenge for promotion from Division 2 for most of the season, but a disastrous run in the final five games, where only three points were taken, was to prove to be conclusive and in the end a fourth-place finish was achieved with 44 points, 11 behind champions Stirling Albion.
In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton received a tough first round draw and lost out to Clyde, who were to go on to win the cup final.
In the League Cup, only two wins were achieved in the 6 sectional games, although a 10–3 win over Stranraer was a highlight.
Locally, Alloa were to be too much for Dumbarton to handle in the semi final of the Stirlingshire Cup.
As the previous season's Stirlingshire Cup holders, Dumbarton were drawn to meet Buckie Thistle in the semi-final of the Dewar Shield, but as was the case four seasons earlier Dumbarton withdrew.
Finally, for the second season running Dumbarton broke both the goals for and goals against 'centuries' during the season. They scored 140 goals in all games, being the 10th time that the 'century - for' had been broken, and conceded 103, the 16th time that the 'century - against' had been broken.
