By losing just 4 games out of the first 20, at the turn of the year Dumbarton were just one point off the top of the Second Division and hopes were high that promotion might follow. However one win in the subsequent 8 put paid to these hopes and in the end finished 8th, out of 20, with 40 points - 10 behind champions Dundee United.
In the Scottish Cup, Dumbarton reached the second round before being knocked out by Falkirk.
Locally, Dumbarton were runners-up in both the Dumbartonshire Cup and the Dumbartonshire Charity Cup, losing to Helensburgh and Clydebank in the respective finals.
