  • February 5: first appearance of Old Doc Yak by Sidney Smith for the Chicago Tribune. Origins in earlier strip Buck Nix for Chicago Evening Journal.
  • May 31: first appearance of Doc's Dippy Duck by John Hager for the Seattle Daily Times, appearing on the front page. Not formally named until February 10, 1915.
